The Story Behind Smoke Art

Smoke Art is the creative expression of Trevor Cross, a Sydney-based artist whose artistic journey began after an unexpected career shift during the global pandemic.
For more than 20 years, Trevor worked behind the scenes in theatre, designing and building immersive stage sets. That experience shaped his approach to art today combining technical craftsmanship with visual storytelling to create pieces that capture attention and spark emotion.

Drawing inspiration from street art, pop culture, and photography, Trevor’s work is designed to be experienced twice. Once from a distance for the big picture, and again from up close to discover the intricate detail of his work.

Trevor swaps fine-art staples for recycled materials and hardware store hauls to create large scale works that demand attention. His art is a study in contrasts - it is both crude and sophisticated, simple and complex, much like the world it seeks to document. Whether celebrating a cultural icon or questioning a social norm, his goal is simple. Make work that is impossible to ignore and even harder not to smile at.
