This is an image of the rusted 7mm Lefaucheux pinfire revolver discovered in a field by a farmer believed to be the one Vincent Van Gogh shot himself with in 1890. When he died he was on the cusp of commercial success and I wonder if he had known what was around the corner would he have taken his own life? Mental health struggles and some form of depression is a common experience for many people. We all go though tough times. But life is ups and downs. It is not always a smooth ride, it is bumpy like this carpet. Small little challenges each day, and bigger ones from time to time that need to be overcome. Suicide is a permanent solution to to an often temporary problem, and is one of the leading killers of young people, particularly males. While it may end the temporary ailment for the victim, it begins a lifetime of suffering for those left behind. The real tragedy of suicide is the lost potential. What beautiful music died with that person before being shown to the world? What could have been just around the corner waiting to change fortunes? We will never know. Life is short, precious, and we only get one. Don’t waste it. Live it. This piece is intended to be a celebration of life, the good, the bad and the ugly, and the carpet which it is painted on which was headed for landfill, will now live forever.
