This is a special piece for me as I am a massive fan of The Rock who I find to be incredibly inspirational, kind and generous. Despite being arguably the biggest star in the world he can still laugh at himself and remain humble. After his NFL dreams were dashed and he found himself with seven bucks in his pocket and down and out, he picked himself up and went down another path that led him to where he is today, the hardest worker in the room. I made this piece over 80 hours as I was inspired by Themba Gorimbo’s story which I came by via DJ’s Insta, selling his UFC fight gloves to fund a well in his village back in Zimbabwe while sleeping on a couch in his gym with no car. Incredible selflessness and the true meaning of “Ubuntu”. Being a fellow Southern African I was extremely moved by his empathy and unselfishness. DJ heard of his act of kindness and then supported him with a house and sharing his story, which is how I came to hear of it. The piece is not for sale but was made for The Rock in order for him to donate the cost to Themba’s foundation and help him on his mission. Both DJ and I went to college in Miami (305 baby!) and Themba was training and fighting out of Miami so the 305 is where we all began to chase our dreams, so the time on the watch is 3:05. The Rock To quote the great Dwayne Johnson “it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.”
